English in Mallorca
The Balearic Islands Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, Formentera and Cabrera are situated 200 km south of Barcelona off the east coast of Spain. In spite of the close proximity of the different islands, each one has its own very different landscape.
Mallorca has a magnificent coastline with excellent sandy beaches. Menorca is noted for its tranquillity, while Ibiza is most famous for it's young and extravagant nightlife. Formentera and Cabrera are extremely solitary. |

Mallorca is the largest island covering some 3,640 square km, the furthest distance that can be travelled on the island is 120 km. Palma, the island's capital, has a population of approximately 320.000.
It stretches some 15 km along the coastline, from El Arenal and Palma beach in the east as far as the cosmopolitan districts of Cala Mayor and San Agustin in the west. |

Most of the major buildings and monuments in Palma were constructed during the "Golden Age," between 1276 and 1344 under the rule of the Kingdom of Aragon.
Among the most impressive is the graceful Gothic Cathedral, which was commissioned by King Jaime I of Aragon in 1230. |

| Close to cathedral is the old Arab quarter with its maze of narrow streets hiding museums, palaces and exquisite courtyards. Most of the main sights are located within this area bounded by the old walls, especially to the north and east of the cathedral. |

Palma is stylish, sophisticated, intimate yet bursting with life. It has a wide range of exquisite shopping areas, and restaurants which offer cuisines from all over the world and a bar scene which covers at twenty-four hours any taste.
Around Palma de Mallorca you will find first class beaches with fine sand and crystal- clear waters. It´s no wonder that the Spanish royal family as well as many American celebrities spend their summer vacation in Mallorca.

The nightlife in Mallorca needs no introduction. The island is teeming with pubs and discos. |

There is a bus connection to the city centre (bus Nº 1) and to the Playa de Palma (bus Nº 21). |
